There’s no reading the levels of irony in Best Coast’s paean to Los Angeles living. She has the ocean, has the babes, has the sun and the waves, ergo LA is the only place for her. But is it, really? The film clip features a series of awkwardly filmed wish-you-were-here indie rock vignettes (hey guys, let’s throw our drums into the sea!) that make the whole thing seem self-consciously ridiculous. I can’t help but feel like something else is going on. Although I may be expected too much from someone who up until now was best known for wishing you were her boyfriend.
