The motion was passed through unanimously by council members, as well as Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and Deputy Lord Mayor Susan Riley.
In an interesting turn of events, Mayor Doyle was revealed to be a direct descendant of Robert Bennett – who was Melbourne’s Lord Mayor in 1861 – and who Bennetts Lane was ultimately named after.
