Democracy sausage map: The best election sausage sizzles in Melbourne

sausage

If you're after a democracy sausage this election day, here's our guide to the best sausage sizzles in Melbourne.

The north side has got it made, with most polling stations not only dishing up snags, but cakes too. So if meat’s not your thing or you’re keen for some sweeties post bread party, here’s where to go. The majority of them are based at schools, which is dope because we all know mums totally slay it at baked goods. Carlton Garden Primary School, Thornbury Primary School, Spensley Street Primary School, Merri Creek Primary School and Batman Park Hall have all got you sorted. Coburg West Primary School and Brunswick East Primary School have also thrown in some bacon and eggs, if you want to live dangerously. Brunswick South West Primary School earns the medal for versatility, dishing out sausages, cakes, vegetarian options, plus bacon and eggs.

Here’s where to snag a sausage sizzle for the Victorian election

Strictly about the sausage? Don’t stress, we’ve filtered down the places that have exclusively got snags up for grabs: St Ambrose Church Hall, Brunswick North Primary School and Preston North East Primary School are all keeping it OG, with sausage and sangas only.

South and eastern suburbs have got heaps around, though you might have to hoof it to get a snag in most suburbs. Xavier College Senior Campus is living the dream with not only sausages, but also cake, coffee, bacon and eggs. Otherwise head to Armadale Primary School, 4th Caulfield Scout Hall, Ormond Primary School, McKinnon Secondary College and Kew East Uniting Church Hall. Always the rival to the north, Swinburne University gets a shared first place with Brunswick South West Primary School – providing a smorgasbord of sausages, vegetarian options, Halal food, bacon and eggs.

Way out west, Footscray Primary School have ditched the sausages but still have cake, coffee and Halal food. Otherwise hit up Footscray City Primary School, Uniting Church Hall or Avondale Primary School, who are all packing serious meat. Overall the west side is pretty slim pickings for bangers, so maybe stay at a mates and chuck an absentee vote to make the most of your Election Day sausage party.

It’s worse news for city dwellers, with the only confirmed spot for snacks being the Melbourne Unitarian Church. We implore the organisers of this area to kindly sort their shit out before the next election, because that’s just not cricket.

You can’t get a sausage everywhere, and Democracy Sausage has marked out these sub-par establishments with a big red cross of shame. Places to avoid are the Betty Day Centre in St Kilda, and just up the road at the Middle Park Bowling Centre. If you’re feeling saucy, these joints will leave you very disappointed.
