On June 7 and 9, school students are offered a rare opportunity to see Baker Boy perform for free thanks to the Positive Start in 2022 program.
Baker Boy, a hip-hop artist, dancer, actor and Yolngu man known for performing original songs in both English and Yolŋu Matha, is headlining the MEGAMIX Social. As the recipient of Young Australian of the Year in 2019, Baker Boy hopes to inspire younger generations to embrace their culture through his music. Taking place on June 7 and 9 this year, MEGAMIX Social is a free concert that’s taking place at Hamer Hall and is open to all students who attend a government or low-fee non-government school.

Joined by a live DJ and two special guest performers, Baker Boy is taking to the main stage at Hamer Hall for four concerts over two days. The MEGAMIX series includes creative music workshops on techno, hip-hop writing, as well as drama, dance and circus performances in the Playhouse and Fairfax Studio.
“After two years of remote learning we are simply thrilled to be welcoming students back to Arts Centre Melbourne’s iconic venues for such an exciting and fun program,” says Arts Centre Melbourne’s Head of Creative Engagement Cynthia Nolan Myers. “We know memories created here will last a lifetime.”

The concert is also open to rural and regional students, students living with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students or students from disadvantaged or low SES backgrounds. The concert series is part of the Positive Start in 2022 program that aims to promote youth wellbeing through access to cultural experience that have been sorely missed during the pandemic.
