Discrepancy Records celebrates its 10th anniversary based in its Mont Albert North store this year with what owner Paul Kelly says is the best selection of exclusive Record Store Day titles he has seen in RSD history.
“We’ve had more interest in the 500+ exclusive releases than in any other year, and the biggest challenge has been securing enough stock to satisfy that demand,” he says.
Leading the charge are titles from Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Gracie Abrams, Oasis, Post Malone, David Bowie and Laufey.

“There’s far more depth this year than in any previous year”, says Kelly, “no matter what genre you’re into, you will find something here you’ll want.
“Titles I was really keen to see were from the likes of Pixies, the Thompson Twins, Bill Evans (there’s lots of great jazz titles this year), Suzi Quatro, and we even managed to snag a couple of copies of a My Ruin release.”
As the largest retailer of vinyl in Australia, their website now has over two million LPs on offer, both new and used, making Discrepancy Records heaven for record collectors.
To give everyone the best chance of leaving with all the RSD titles they’re after, Discrepancy Records recommends that customers add items to their online account wishlist. It not only assists the store in their stock inventory, but doubles as a shopping list to guide the on-day crate digging.

All the rules governing RSD are strictly adhered to; it’s first in, best dressed, so head down early to make sure you get your hands on what you’re looking for (wishlist selections don’t mean they’ll keep the record on hold for you).
In previous years, the store has seen kilometre-long lines of over 1000 people around the corner to take advantage of the specials and new releases restricted to in-store. Discrepancy has five points of sale to keep things moving along quickly though, and restricted in-store numbers for ease of browsing.
As Kelly says, “The most common thing people comment on is the camaraderie of the queue, they spend some time with like-minded people. Even if they’re lining up early, before they know it, they’re in the store.
“People just love the experience, and it’s kind of turned into RSD Australia folklore – ‘I had a great time talking to other people and found pretty much everything I was looking for’ – when we get feedback like that, it’s been worth the long slog to get to this point.”
RSD titles get announced in February, but the releases were earlier this year due to Easter being on the usual RSD weekend. The organisation has not stopped from that point onwards.
Leftover Record Store Day stock will be added to the Discrepancy Records website from 9am, Monday 14 April for those that can’t attend in person, but there are no promises on stock availability.
Don’t risk it, head to Discrepancy Records at 2A / 2B Milne Road, Mont Albert North, from 8am, Saturday 12 April 2024.
