A never-before-seen immersive audio-visual experience, showcasing Mushroom Group’s rich fifty-year history, has arrived at the Australian Music Vault.
Working in collaboration with Arts Centre Melbourne, the free display titled Mushroom: 50 Years of Making Noise, will harness The Amplifier’s unique 360-degree experiential room to explore the evolution of Australia’s music scene and the pivotal role Mushroom played.

Produced by Mushroom Creative House, Mushroom: 50 Years of Making Noise seamlessly merges iconic music from artists such as Jimmy Barnes, Kylie Minogue, Archie Roach, Teskey Brothers, The Rubens, Christine Anu, Skyhooks, Paul Kelly, Ed Sheeran, and The Temper Trap to create a multi-sensory experience.
Narrated by the late, great Michael Gudinski, the experience runs for approximately four minutes and tells the story of the Mushroom’s five-decade journey through music videos and rare footage from some of Victoria’s most iconic live shows including the 1982 Mushroom Evolution Concert, this year’s record-breaking Ed Sheeran show at the MCG and many more.
Mushroom Group Chief Executive Matt Gudinski said the specially curated experience expertly captures the exciting transformation of Australian music – spanning genres and generations.
“In the early seventies, my father set out to create Mushroom to support the thriving homegrown music scene and great Australian music talent which was starting to emerge.
“This experience provides a great insight into that roller coaster journey and the iconic artists who helped shape our industry into what it is today, and we are proud to have it on show at the Australian Music Vault which my Dad was instrumental in bringing to life,” said Matt.
Australian Music Vault Senior Curator Carolyn Laffan is proud to welcome this new immersive audio-visual experience into The Amplifier and knows it will give viewers a real sense of Mushroom’s legacy.
