The new segment Good, Bad or Ugly adopts a spaghetti western style as Melbourne-based architects Stuart Harrison and Simon Knott criticise some of Australia’s most controversial buildings and spaces.
Simon Knott is the director of BKK Architects while Stuart Harrison is the director of Harrison and White Architects as well as an RMIT lecturer. Together they formed the 3RRR radio program The Architects.
Commencing Sunday May 15 Art Nation’s Good, Bad or Ugly segment will cover sites such as Sydney Tower, the Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Queensland Cultural precint (including GOMA), National Library in Canberra, Brisbane’s Kuripla Bridge and the National Gallery of Victoria Precint.
The debut segment will tackle Melbourne’s Docklands, where the pair of architects believe there were many missed opportunities. Knott discusses the idea that “perhaps in 30 years it might be good – or a slum” while Harrison provides his view on the giant Ferris wheel or ‘Observational Wheel’. This is going to be a bit like the Masterchef of architecture.
