Applications for the Melbourne Prize for Music are now open

Wanted: Victoria’s most outstanding musician or band.

The Melbourne Prize Trust has opened applications for a handful of prestigious music prizes. All up, more than $100,000 is available for musicians across all genres.

The main award, the New Melbourne Prize for Music, will be presented to the most outstanding Victorian musician or group whose work has demonstrated incredible skill and creativity. The winner will go home with a whopping $60,000.

Other prizes up for grabs include the $20,000 Distinguished Musicians Fellowship, the $18,500 Development Award, the $12,500 Beleura Emerging Composers Award and the $3,000 Civic Choice Award.

Applications will be considered by an esteemed panel of judges, including Kate Miller-Heidke and Bakehouse Studios co-founder Helen Marcou. The finalists will be revealed on Wednesday September 4, before the winners are declared on Wednesday November 13.
