UK trance producer Andy Moor is back in Australia this month for Godskitchen 3D. The massive festival is always a huge production and he couldn’t be more excited when I reach him at his studio. Moor explains that shows like Godskitchen enable him to express a different side of his performance personality.

"It kind of goes against the roots of the scene," he explains and then adds, "On the one hand, I get to play some dirty underground venue and it’s completely black, with no production, but then I get to play massive stadiums. So I get the best of both worlds and I treat them as two different things. It’s great – I love it."

Moor has been working on an album by all accounts for some time now. He has notched up a Grammy award and plenty of accolades for his EPs and singles though, so why the wait? "Because the touring schedule is so hectic and heavy it’s very difficult to get quality time in the studio," he says. "So I have just been pinching days here and there to get the tracks done. In an ideal world I would have a lot more planning and structure to it. But with fashions changing and my own taste changing it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep a track that I did a year ago and still be relative to my future plans for the album. So it’s like a rolling process for the moment."

Moor also runs his own label, AVA Recordings, and it is tied to Australia having released productions by our very own Tydi. Moor speaks in glowing terms of the Australian producer. "I met Tydi quite a few years ago now and we stayed in touch. He sent me his music and it’s fantastic. He’s an amazing talent and he’s going to be really big in the future. The most important thing for me though is his enthusiasm and motivation for making music with his natural talent."

And as for the rest of 2010? "I’m just going to go to this small, little Island that’s stuck down south. I think it’s called Australia?" He says with a laugh.

"I’m just finishing off this year’s touring schedule and then after December, for at least six months, I am going to reduce my touring schedule and get some quality time in the studio to finish the album. I’m also going to get everything prepared for the live show which is going to premier late next year. That will be based not so much around me but a whole audio-visual experience."

"Ninety percent of my gigs I’m going to still be doing what I do now. I think people do try and complicate things too much. Essentially people just want to see a DJ playing good music in a club and that is the core of what we do.” Moor briefly pauses then continues, “But this year I have done a lot of stadium and festival gigs, and I wanted to do something better suited to that audience, and that kind of production."

Andy Moor [UK] plays Godskitchen feat. Marcel Woods, Wippenburg and more at Melbourne Park on Saturday October 9.
