Amsterdam’s funniest export brings her unhinged break-up comedy to Melbourne

Melbourne
words by staff writer

Amsterdam comedian Izzy is bringing her show Crumble to Melbourne International Comedy Festival this March, and it starts with the worst dating profile ever created.

Fresh out of a long-term relationship and egged on by her friends, Izzy does what any rational person would do: downloads a dating app and fills her profile entirely with photos of herself crying.

Grief-stricken troll or just keeping it real? That’s for audiences to decide. What starts as a chaotic act of post-break-up honesty slowly morphs into a full-time obsession, as Izzy throws herself into conducting anthropological research on modern romance that nobody asked for, and the profile starts taking on a life of its own.

It’s about how far one person can commit to a terrible idea before real life catches up with them, and it sounds absolutely unhinged in the best way.

Crumble sits right at the intersection of grief and absurdity, described by Funny Women Magazine as a “a high-energy “comedy autopsy” that is as intellectually sharp as it is emotionally messy”, and if you’ve ever watched yourself make a questionable decision and just kept going anyway, this one’s going to hit close to home.

Izzy’s comedy is self-described as a bit delusional, a bit sassy, with big sister energy, and this Melbourne International Comedy Show performance is a perfect showcase of exactly that.

Izzy has been cutting her teeth across New York, Tokyo, LA, London and at festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe and Boom Chicago Comedy Festival. Last year she came runner-up at the English Comedy Talent Awards in Utrecht, and she’s built a reputation as someone who can make a room lose it while still landing something genuinely felt underneath all the chaos.

Catch her at The Motley Wherehaus before word gets out.
