Alyson Murray

Who are we chatting to? Alyson Murray, I’m a singer from Melbourne.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like? Melding sounds of Brandy, Robert Glasper and Emily King – a fusion of R&B, soul and jazz – I get all sorts of comparisons. I even got Tina Arena once, who’d have thought?

What do you love about making music?  I love collaborating with other creative minds, producing music that is fresh and wholesome.

What do you hate about the music industry? How quickly music is turned around. I’ll be stuck on an album for months before I move on. What happened to that?

What inspires your music most? Seeing live performances with great musicians creating irresistible groove.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? Michael Jackson. I recently recorded a cover of his. Would have gotten some tips, maybe even suggested a duet. This track will be on our upcoming album.

What can a punter expect from your live show? Soulful/R&B grooves, lyrics with context and a tasty harmonic palate.
