Presented by Perth’s The Cutting Room Floor, All the Single Lad(ie)s is a provocative and daring show.
Two stories intertwine with each other for a thought-provoking debate into gender. In the first story, we are introduced to the beautiful drag queen Georgina (Joel Horwood). When not showing off her amazing dance moves to Beyonce, Georgina talks to the audience frankly and honestly about the politics of gender. While laced with a wicked sense of humour, Georgina reminds us how far we have to go before we can ever have true gender and sexual equality. The second story takes us into a small, vintage clothing store run by O (Verity Softly). When a handsome young man V (Jack Walker) attempts to rob her one day, the tables are quickly turned and V is tied to a heater and held hostage for three days. Desire and fear are rolled into one and their three-day journey leads to a brutal and confronting finale.
All three performers are knockouts in this show. Horwood prances and dances around the stage (and into the audience) with an astounding energy and grace, while Walker and Softly bring an strong intensity to their performances that leaves the audience wondering whose side they are on.
Directed by Scott Corbett and written by Zoe Hollyoak, All the Single Lad(ie)s is a relevant, confronting and topical show that discusses the issues that we really need to be discussing.
