The Push knows the best way to get rid of those unwanted winter blues. This month’s New Slang will definitely warm you up. Hear the delicate and atmospheric sounds of Saatsuma, alongside self-described ‘okay? trio from Melbourne’ Arbes. If these two acts haven’t already convinced you to come (not quite sure how that could possibly happen), perhaps five-piece alternative band, Franco Cozzo will get you over the line. New Slang goes down on Friday, July 7 from 6pm at The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne.
Saturday Night at NGV invites you to join The Panics to celebrate the closing weekend of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition. Haven’t heard of The Panics? Don’t worry you don’t have to panic, you still have time to immerse yourself in their raw, pop-throwback tunes that could possibly be the soundtrack to your life. The Perth band made a name for themselves with their debut EP released in 2002, and emerged to be one of Australia’s most important bands. You can purchase tickets on NGV’s website, doors open at 6pm. Don’t forget you can also take a look at the gorgeous exhibition. Sounds fancy and enchanting, right?
Unfortunately, on Saturday night you have to pick sides between Saturday Night at NGV or joining Sodastream and Heathcote Blue at Russian House in Fitzroy. Sodastream’s latest album Little By Little consists of dreamy, indie-folk tunes you want to sing your heart out to. Similarly, Heathcote Blue are generously giving you unlimited streaming of their newest album Stray Dog Daily on Bandcamp. Tickets are selling fast, so you better hurry. Doors open at 7.30pm.
Unplugged Live returns this Sunday July 9. After last week’s splendid little performance by triple j Unearthed 2016 winner Gretta Ray, this week you get to see Alex The Astronaut for free. Alex Lynn recently released a folk-influenced pop EP To Whom It May Concern, and is heavily inspired by Paul Kelly and Bob Dylan when it comes to songwriting. Moreover, she has been living in the Big Apple for the past year, so this might be the perfect opportunity to experience an intimate performance from her. Due to limited capacity at Exhibition Space (NGV) you might want to come early. Doors open at 2pm.
