While May was fun and it’s sad it’s nearly time to say goodbye to it, a new month means another instalment of New Slang. On Friday June 2, The Channel will once again host a slew of fab artists. This month will feature a bunch of primo local hip hop acts including narly and supports DEX and Sophiegrophy. The whole shebang is only $10 on the door.
There’s another cool little announcement from The Push this week. For four days from Friday July 14 until Monday July 17 they’ll be setting up shop at Collarts Brunswick St campus. The Push Pop Up Shop is an opportunity for passers-by to get engaged in things like nightly live music performances, workshops on things like mixing and social media marketing, artist photoshoots and more and to top it off, it’s all free. Check out The Push’s website for more info.
This Friday May 26, the guttural garage punk prodigies, Cable Ties are releasing their debut, self-titled album and to celebrate they’re playing a free all ages gig. While a grimy dimly lit garage might be better suited, the three-piece have settled for Record Paradise in Brunswick. The carnage starts at around 6pm and if you want to be a part of it all you have to do is be there at roughly the same time.
That’s not all though, because on Wednesday May 24, ACMIwill premiere an incredible documentary all about the strange and intriguing underground world of the Melbourne noise and improv scene. The film is called A Conversational Exploration of Sonic Practice and it’s a series of heartfelt chats the filmmaker Todd-Anderson-Kunert has with 31 sonic artists. The interviews flow through improvisational performance, artistic development and fragility. All the interviews were shot within the last two years and the film seeks to bring some light and thought-provoking discussion about a scene that you may have never heard about. The screening is for one day only, and tickets are only $14 from ACMI’s website.
