After three great years, Colour is closing at the end of 2022

Colour closing

An absolute bastion of Naarm's nightlife, Colour will be sorely missed.

Citing “ever-increasing financial pressures in our industry”, the best nightclub in Carlton is sadly shutting its doors at the end of this year. They’re gearing up to go out in style, however, with a full month and a half of upcoming farewell parties, featuring some of the acts that came to call Colour their home throughout the years.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

“What a wild three-and-a-bit years it’s been,” they said in a statement on their Facebook page. “We built the club in 2019 as a means to continue to support the amazing local dance and live music community, and we are proud to have played a small role in filling that space.”

“It’s been incredible to work with such an amazing amount of new talent, and to watch many of our peers grow into the amazing artists they are today.”

“Unfortunately, due to the ever-increasing financial pressures in our industry, the operation of our venue has become unviable, and Colour will be closing its doors at the end of 2022. We thank all the punters, our amazing staff, our family and our friends from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support, especially during the pandemic. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you.

We do have a month and a half left of some very special events and guests, so keep an eye out for that— let’s send it out in style!”

The first of their send-off parties is a farewell gig from Proto Moro, who played on Colour’s opening night, had a long-term residency with the venue and released their first album Protosynthesis on their label.

“All of this happened during the pandemic, and their efforts for us and for the Naarm Arts Sector as a whole just simply can’t be put into words,” say Proto Moro on the club’s closing. “It is with great sadness that we are now saying goodbye to the club that gave us so much, but it is also a time to celebrate the life of what was such a warm and safe place where so much culture and art was developed.”

With the departure of Colour, there’s going to be a big hole in Carlton and also in my heart. Thanks for everything, legends.

Goodbye Colour, you will be missed. Have one last boogie with them and keep up to date with their upcoming farewell parties by heading here.
