After being cancelled in 2020, the RAW Comedy National Grand Final is finally here

Words by Arielle Richards

Australia’s biggest open mic competition will finally get its winner.

Every year, Australia’s finest comedy talent battle it out over five minutes of stand-up for RAW Comedy, Australia’s largest, and most prestigious, comedy competition. But after COVID-19 upended the 2020 Grand Final, last year’s contestants are yet to finish what they started.

Now that the contestants have hashed it out in heats and State Finals across the country earlier this year, the RAW Comedy National Grand Final has arrived, and only one can win.

What you need to know

  • The 2020 RAW Comedy finalists will finally get their time to shine at the 2021 Grand Final event
  • The evening of laughs will take place as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Sunday April 11 at Melbourne Town Hall

In 2021, the finale will be hosted by rising comedy star Dane Simpson, who has his own show, Didgeridoozy, at MICF 2021.

From Wagga Wagga, Simpson is rapidly on the rise, having appeared on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention, Aussie feature film, The Merger, as well as the Opening Night Allstars Supershow.

The 2021 RAW Comedy National Grand Final is in good hands with Simpson as MC.
