ACMI will present a comprehensive retrospective of David Lynch's cinematic works this February, featuring 4K restorations of several cult classics alongside pivotal films from the director's extensive catalogue.
Curated by ACMI’s Film & TV curator Reece Goodwin, Focus on David Lynch spans the auteur’s career from his surrealist debut through to his later works, screening ten features across two weeks at Federation Square. “Cinema without David Lynch is hard to imagine. His lasting impact and immense contribution to the creative film landscape defy simple description,” says Goodwin. “Instead, step into the cinema and experience it firsthand – share a strange dream with a strange audience and let the mysteries linger.”
The program celebrates Lynch’s groundbreaking approach to filmmaking, from his reinvention of melodrama to his transformation of film noir conventions.

The retrospective offers both longtime fans and newcomers the opportunity to experience Lynch’s uniquely atmospheric storytelling on the big screen. Several films will be presented in stunning 4K restorations, including his debut feature Eraserhead, the neo-noir mystery Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and the critically acclaimed Mulholland Drive.
The program spans Lynch’s complete filmography, from early experimental works through to mainstream success with The Elephant Man, his ambitious adaptation of Dune, and later masterpieces including The Straight Story and Inland Empire. The selection also includes Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, the theatrical continuation of his groundbreaking television series.
Program passes are available offering multiple session access at reduced rates. Three-session passes are priced at $48 full, $42 concession, and $39 for members, while six-session passes are available for $90 full, $78 concession, and $72 for members.
