Once a ballerina himself, McAllister was inducted into the Australian Ballet School in 1981 where he quickly flourished, playing lead roles in productions such as The Sleeping Beauty, Romero and Juliet and Don Quixote.
His career spanned the world before he became the Principal Artist to the Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet in 2001. This year saw McAllister the privilege of directing the 50th anniversary of the Australian Ballet.
