Abiy Sahle and Alexander Nettelbeck’s ensemble performs original instrumental compositions highlighting the unique scales and rhythms of Ethiopian Music in an uplifting performance.

Abiy Sahle comes from Ethiopia where he grew up in a family of musicians. He performed as a musician with the Ethiopian circus group from 1995-1998. Since settling in Melbourne, Abiy has performed with many different bands playing saxophone and Ethiopian traditional instruments. Abiy is also a member of Melbourne-based The JAzmaris. “The JAzmaris infuse a mix of original compositions with those of the great Ethiopian composers who have come before them”.

Alexander Nettelbeck is a musician whose playing encompasses classical jazz, blues, Latin, and contemporary music in a unique and individual style, Alexander has performed at jazz festivals Tuscia in Jazz (Italy) Piwinica Pod baranami (Poland), and Melbourne International Jazz Festival to name a few. “Few pianists can combine lyricism with a sense of groove the way that Alexander Nettelbeck does… ” Nikos Fotakis, Australian jazz Net
