Next door to the Northside Clinic in North Fitzroy, the centre will provide our LGBTI+ community with the opportunity to seek occupational therapy, legal and employment services, psychological therapy and counselling for individuals and couples.
Other services include sex therapy, family relationship counselling as well as the facilitation of social activity groups (including cultural, creative and sporting activities).
Mind Australia Limited has created this service not just to reinforce their commitment to helping diverse communities, but also in response to a mental health crisis that Australia and Melbourne has been experiencing for a number of years.
According to a study done by the National LGBTI Health Alliance in 2016, 41% of homosexual and bisexual people aged 16 and over met the criteria for a mental disorder and had symptoms in the last 12 months. Compared to the general population, LGBTI young people aged 16 to 28 are five times more likely to attempt suicide in their lifetime.
