A special in-store gig is going down at Wax Museum Records next week

Words by Tom Parker

Featuring two of Melbourne’s finest selectors.

The hallowed Wax Museum Records in the city is playing host to a pop-up event on Monday, with its residents GSM and Doc Felix performing a special vinyl-only set at the record store.

It comes as part of City of Melbourne’s new LOLI POP UP live event series – an extension of their ongoing Looking Out, Looking In Spotify playlist series that’s seen the likes of thando, High Tension’s Karina Utomo, Barney McAll, Soju Gang, Rings Around Saturn, and more, curate a special collection of tracks for listeners to enjoy.

Catch up on the latest music interviews, news and reviews here.

Produced by The Operatives, the playlist has been a huge success, offering music lovers consummate selections in everything from metal, soul, ambient, hip hop, jazz, First Nations, contemporary and electronic explorations – standing as a fascinating adventure into the minds of some of Melbourne’s most revered artists. So it’s no surprise to see Looking Out, Looking In develop into a live series.

The first instalment of the LOLI POP UP series aligns with Make Music Day 2021 – a worldwide celebration of music first instituted 1982 in France. Its venue – Wax Museum – has been a Melbourne institution for nearly 15 years, providing a platform for the city’s soulful underground to be accessed and heard.

Bonafide tastemakers in their own right, step into Wax Museum and gain an insight into music’s prevailing trends, while exploring a treasure chest of records both old and new.

LOLI POP UP #1 takes place at Wax Museum from 12:30pm to 2pm on Monday June 21, and can also be livestreamed via The Operatives’ Twitch channel. It’s free but registrations are essential. More info here.
