A new rooftop bar is opening in Abbotsford

Full Moon Fever

Lulie Tavern, a rustic favourite of Abbotsford locals and many pub goers, is opening a rooftop just in time for summer!

Full Moon Fever, Lulie’s newest addition to their existing venue, will be open to public on Friday November 18 and will accommodate not just the glorious Melbourne sunshine, but the cool wintery months as well. Set above the bustle of Johnston Street, Full Moon Fever is designed to be an extension of the saloon-y, rock n roll atmosphere at Lulie Tavern.

Perfect for year-round entertaining, the rooftop will be scattered with lounging seats and big communal booths. A retractable roof and a cosy outdoor wood burner will keep all rooftop-goers warm, year round. They are an ‘every person’s bar’ which essentially means all your classic staples.

On the menu you’ll find Tommy’s Margaritas, while The Desert Bird, Dusty Boots and Johnny Pash cocktails will throw you straight into the saloon feel. Burgers make up most of the food menu, ranging from the classic cheeseburger to the Dead Ringer (Fried Chicken) or the Vegan Chicken, to name just a couple.

Founders Jon-Lee Farrell and Brendan Kennedy have worked together in the hospitality industry for over a decade – a trip they took together to the off-beaten track of Joshua Tree in California has inspired the atmosphere. Downstairs is panelled with wood and neon lights, collectables and memorabilia. The name of the rooftop is a nod to the great Tom Petty, who adorns the walls and speakers of the tavern downstairs.

The Lulie team have been sure to keep the heritage of the original building alive by repurposing most of the original factory building roof, including large beams of Oregon timber and Northcote factory bricks.

Co-Owner Jon Farrell says “we want our patrons to feel as though they can continue to party by the open fire on the rooftop, dancing under the stars, or head downstairs to hit the dance floor with our live music. When you walk upstairs, we want the rooftop to take you away the same way downstairs does.”

In other exciting news, Luliepalooza will be back better than ever this year on November 5. Luliepalooza is an annual event that takes place on the home ground of the original Lulie venue: Lulie Street. This rock n roll street party will be bursting with Australian bands and DJs, awesome food and drink offerings, a mechanic bull and more.

Full Moon Fever – Upstairs at Lulie Tavern is located at 225 Johnston St, Abbotsford 3067.
