The Collingwood Basement is bringing more underground dance culture to Collingwood, Melbourne with intimate late-night sessions at this new club.

This Smith Street basement has welcomed a new micro-club to Melbourne, with just 100 spots.

Located beneath 0 (zero) Langridge Street, this micro-club promises a proper underground experience with a Funktion-One sound system and capacity capped at just 100 punters.

Named The Collingwood Basement, it has secured a 4am licence, making it one of the few venues in Melbourne’s inner north pushing dance music into the early hours.

Reasons collective will take over the space on 29 August with their signature showcase of deeper house and techno. The night promises residents and friends delivering all-night sets in what organisers describe as an intimate party underground.

With Melbourne’s nightlife landscape constantly evolving, The Collingwood Basement represents a return to the intimate club experience that helped shape the city’s electronic music scene. The venue’s micro-club format and basement location echo the underground spaces that have historically nurtured dance music communities across the globe.

The Collingwood reputation as a nightlife hub continues to grow, with The Collingwood Basement joining the neighbourhood’s expanding roster of after-dark destinations.

The basement belongs to, and sits below Melbourne bar, New Guernica, which moved to the Smith St location in 2021.

Originally housed on Little Collins Street and previously F4, the multi-room nightclub and bar was renowned as one of the city’s most charismatic bars and the go-to for a night of local and international electronic disco, hosting the likes of Jamie XX, George Michael, Solange Knowles, Honey Dijon, and Queens Of The Stone Age over the years.

Following the devastating impact of the pandemic with an endless wave of restrictions and lockdowns, as well as a building redevelopment proposal, the New Guernica owners Steve Costa, Dominic Lococo, Jaff Tzaferis and Kyle Bush made the decision to close the CBD venue and look for an alternate location in Melbourne.
