After a stint of California living, music producer and restauranteur Grant Smillie is returning home to open Marmont – a brand new restaurant in the Crown complex.
Marmont is a brand new venture coming to the Crown complex and at the helm is none other than Melbourne-native house producer and DJ, Grant Smillie. After living in Los Angeles for the past 12 years, he’s returning to share what he’s learned abroad with the lucky foodies of Melbourne.
Set to open in the coming days, Marmont brings chilled-out, Californian hospitality to the banks of the Yarra River, offering classic Old Hollywood cuisine such as seafood and steaks with a modern twist.

With direct access from the river walkway and al fresco dining, it’ll be the prime place for tourists and locals alike to grab a sophisticated cocktail (or three) and bask in the summer sun.
The venue will also feature all-day vinyl DJs who will be spinning tracks under the guidance of Simille himself, meaning the tunes are in good hands.
Before getting into the restaurant business, Simille was a semi-pro DJ and music producer and also one half of the dance music duo TV Rock, who are best known for their number one hit single Flaunt it ft. Seany B. After dropping their debut album Sunshine City in 2006, the duo founded the label Neon Records.
In the kitchen, Simille has enlisted the help of his good friend and ex-Supernormal head chef, Mark Tagnipez. An LA native, Tagnipez lends his Chicano influence and Filipino heritage to the food menu.
He’ll be joined by general manager Nic Coulter (previously of Hanoi Hannah, Tokyo Tina, Studio Amaro and Firebird) as well as bar manager Marcus Lubiato, who hails from São Paulo and has manned bars from Galah to Studio Amaro.
