The smash-hit cult cabaret An Evening Without Kate Bush is set to make its Victorian debut at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Fairfax Studio from 5 – 8 February 2025.

The production, which has captivated audiences and critics worldwide, offers a tribute to the iconic British singer-songwriter Kate Bush, celebrating her music, her fans, and the mythology surrounding her work.

Created by Sarah-Louise Young and Russell Lucas, An Evening Without Kate Bush is a journey through Bush’s influential career, blending classic hits with inventive stagecraft and a mesmerising performance by Young. The show delves deep into the phenomenon of Bush’s fan base, known affectionately as “Fish People,” exploring the impact she has had since her debut at the top of the UK charts in 1978.

Audiences can expect renditions of beloved tracks like Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting, and The Man With The Child In His Eyes, alongside unexpected B-sides and unique interpretations of songs such as This Woman’s Work and Babooshka. The production’s blend of music and theatricality has earned it critical acclaim, with sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, multiple seasons at Soho Theatre, and tours across the UK from 2020 to 2023.

In 2025, An Evening Without Kate Bush will tour Australia and New Zealand, following successful performances at events like the Sydney Festival, Adelaide Fringe, and Perth’s Fringe World in 2024, as well as the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2023.

The show has received widespread praise, with The Daily Telegraph describing it as “Spellbinding,” and The Stage lauding Young for reinventing the tribute act with a mix of comedy and vaudevillian warmth. The Times and The Sun have also celebrated the production for its joyful and captivating spectacle, making it clear that one doesn’t need to be a lifelong Kate Bush fan to enjoy the experience.

The 70-minute performance is recommended for audiences aged 15 and above and includes mild coarse language, theatrical haze, and some audience participation.
