Kaviitá is marking a brave new chapter with the upcoming release of her debut EP Caught in the Yellow.
Best known to Geelong/Djilang’s music scene for her effortlessly sultry vocals and poetic songwriting, artist and producer Kaviitá is inviting listeners into her confessional.
Raised with ever-changing ideas of what love should look like, Kaviitá has spent her twenties, like most, collecting lessons on heartbreak and empowerment. Caught in the Yellow is where she unpacks it all, rewriting old stories, imagining new ones, and deciding what love looks like on her terms.

As she puts it, “Everyone needs love, everyone deserves love, everyone is loved, and everyone is affected by love in some way.”
The EPs first two singles, Sista and Place ok Alone, are rippling through the local scene and earning high praise.
Listeners have compared her sound to ‘The soulfulness of Lauryn Hill’ and ‘The calm electronics of Tkay Maidza’, adding, ‘I’m ghosting my ex to it.’
The production of Caught in the Yellow was a collaborative journey in parts, with Naarm-based producer Jake Amy contributing to Place ok Alone and working as the EP’s mixing engineer, while Matt ‘xiro’ Fioravanti supported the mastering; but the overall EP has been a self-produced labour of love, years in the making.
The result is the marrying of vintage soul sounds with neo-energy brass and keys, smooth and smoky, like the musical equivalent of the pucker that seals the last coat of lipstick. Combine that with the intimate honesty of a bedroom confessional, and you’ve got that raw edge that keeps you hooked till the delicious end.
While the debut single Sista dives straight into heavy themes, it remains, at its heart, a celebration. Born from Kaviitá’s relationship with her sister and the powerful connection they share, she laces warm verses with stories of subtle resilience and tops them all off with twinkling keys.
“It’s about watching your sister grow from pain and hardship and seeing her own her power again, being proud of her and admiring her strength, seeing her stand so tall knowing no one can fuck with her,” Kaviitá says.

Like the debut single, the tracks that follow continue to commit fragments of reflective clarity and revelation to mortar, creating a mosaic of songs that embrace the light and warmth of life’s most devastating, uplifting, and energising moments.
Set for release early next year, the EP marks her true professional arrival on the scene. But the buzz is already building, and Kaviitá is staking her claim with the trickling release of two more singles in the months prior.
Rest assured, this EP won’t just be something that catches your ear in passing; it’s a full-blown, scribble-it-down-for-later, pour-a-glass-of-wine, and dance-across-your-kitchen-in-your-undies-until-your-feet-ache-and-tears-flow kind of affair.
So, pour out a glass and close down the blinds, Kaviitá is calling.
