A Christmas Carol will conclude its celebrated third Melbourne season this month

Words by Staff Writer

The Tony Award-winning production of A Christmas Carol will conclude its third season at Melbourne's Comedy Theatre this month, having established itself as one of the city's newest Christmas traditions.

Erik Thomson leads the cast as Scrooge alongside Alison Whyte as The Ghost of Christmas Past in this reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Throughout its run, the production has supported SecondBite’s food relief program through fundraising initiatives.

The Old Vic production, which has garnered five Tony Awards, brings together the creative talents of Matthew Warchus, known for Matilda the Musical, as director, and Jack Thorne, of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child fame, as adaptor. Their immersive interpretation fills the theatre with seasonal music and festive atmosphere.

Arts Hub has declared “it wouldn’t be Christmas without it,” while The AU Review calls it “the must-see festive event of the year.” The production continues its tradition of serving mince pies and creating a festive environment that draws families into this timeless story of greed, love and redemption.
