The festival kicks off in Richmond with GSTRING Nicotine, four high schoolers from Geelong who channel their energy into punk and indie rock covers. Their youthful enthusiasm sets the perfect tone for what promises to be an afternoon of unbridled musical expression.

SYN’s own Emma Yue takes the stage next, bringing her indie singer-songwriter style to the mix. As one of the station’s own broadcasters turned performer, Emma Yue represents the seamless connection between SYN’s on-air talent and the broader music community they champion.

Hot Milk Machine follows with their foaming four-piece punk-rock and modern-grunge sound. Formed out of a Catholic all girls high school in 2022, the band proves that great music can emerge from anywhere, challenging expectations and breaking down barriers in true SYN fashion.

W.O.M.B.A.T, also known as Waste Of Money, Brains And Time, represents the hardest working bands on Melbourne’s live music scene right now. These hotly tipped punk rockers embody the DIY spirit that SYN has always celebrated.

Closing out the afternoon is Daezy, an indie-pop, rock, soul and funk three-piece project known for their honest lyrics. Their diverse sound palette reflects the genre-spanning approach that makes SYN’s programming so compelling, from pop to punk and everything in between.

Bakehouse Studios

Bakehouse Studios in Richmond is a Melbourne music landmark that’s hosted everyone from The Avalanches and Nick Cave to Courtney Barnett and Tame Impala.

The iconic Richmond venue has featured in Paul Kelly’s documentary Stories of Me and hundreds of music videos, earning recognition as an official Melbourne Music Landmark.

In 2022, Bakehouse was inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame for its decades of nurturing both underground acts and international superstars. From Tool to Tones And I, Beck to Blackeyed Susans, the studio has become synonymous with Melbourne’s diverse music scene.

The SYN x Youth Fest event reflects the station’s core mission of representing artists of all genres, genders and lived experiences. The Richmond event showcases the weird and wonderful facets of Melbourne’s music scene that algorithm-driven platforms often overlook, giving space to the passionate young artists who form the backbone of the city’s cultural landscape.
