This Friday July 7, the team at hyp-nøsïs is celebrating their first birthday with a party entitled All We Ever Wanted Was Everything. They’re stepping it up a notch venue-wise for this one, throwing down their flavour of left-of-centre dance music at the Sub Club in the CBD. Performing live on the night will be Lost Few and Juxtpose, with selection duties falling to local stalwart Moopie, DBR and Tim Heaney. For your eyes to feast on, local artist Senekt will be painting his densely layered surreal anatomical subject matter live for your enjoyment.
Up the road at Hugs&Kisses, ¿Club D’érange? is once again pushing through your third eye with their night of weirdo jams and art. Stepping under their two metre LED lightbox on the decks for the this one is Factor XIII, Toni Yotzi, Whiskey Houston and Paul Jager. Remember that Hugs&Kisses is a members only club – but don’t worry, membership is free, just head to their website and sign up.
Also in the city on Friday, Lobster Theremin’s Daze is back in town to get dark and dirty at Boney for Autosea. After making his name in really gritty lo-fi house and acid, the last 12 months has seen the Ballarat producer exploring the realms outside of four-to-the-floor pounders, experimenting with breakbeat and more old school rave influenced sounds. Support duties have fallen to a stellar lineup of locals; Chiara Kickdrum, Myles Mac, Paul Lynch, Mitchell Gee, Street Cymbal, Eskapet, Blacksheep and Josh Wain. Free entry before 10pm.
Saturday July 8 sees the return of goth night The New Order at The Sub Club, fusing the best in goth, alternative, synth, industrial and whatever-wave tunes. Djs Lilith Nirvana, Eris, Antənim (Belgium), Anarki, Satanista, Goblyn and Skinny will be providing the soundtrack to your doom, which will be saucy and warm because they’ve got $5 mulled cider cocktails and a heap of other drink specials.
Over at Banana : Peach, Pjenné, Moopie, Georgia Bird, Mano Le Red and Gus are spinning some tunes for a little night called Midnight Snack. Weirdly though, it kicks off at 10pm. Reckon someone got fired for that blunder? I guess it goes through midnight, so it kind of works. Anyways, you get the gist, solid vibes in the revamped venue, get among it.
If you’ve still got any pep left, Sunday morning from 7am is Revolver time. Along for this one is North West UK-based Bontan who’s track with Josh Butler Call You Back sat on top of the Beatport charts for a staggering five weeks this year, catapulting his profile to the echelons of house royalty. Support comes from Sunday residents and friends Boogs, Spacey Space, T-Rek, Radiator, Silversix, Brian Fantana and Ben Lawrence.
