Single Of The Week
Darcy Baylis : Be Patient, Be Tender
As if the emotional essence of Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreaks, MBDTF, and Yeezus coagulated into a dancefloor-ready jam, Beat Patient, Be Tender pushes introspective vocal house into its dichotomous extremes – beauty both scary and triumphant. New album Intimacy & Isolation surprise-dropped last week, get amongst it.
Lana Del Rey : Love
Enya-lite pomp underpins Lana Del Rey’s strongest melodic turn yet. Enjoyable, even if the detached melancholy is a subjective make or break. I’m leaning more and more to make.
Polish Club : Come Party
There’s no reinventing the wheel here, but an impossibly catchy chorus makes this a pretty bloody good wheel. Come Party has nothing to say beyond the sentiment of the title, and you know what? It doesn’t need to say much more. Dumb, feelgood rock, done smart ‘n’ sharp.
Oscar Key Sung : Shallow
Inventive production proves to be the greatest strength on Shallow, married with Oscar’s clean, established-impeccable vocal. An instrumental hook is a curious choice, but there are plenty of strengths on show to compensate. Won’t be a runaway, crossover pop hit, but it’s indication that Oscar has one in him.
