World-Class Ethio-Jazz Pioneer Solomon Sisay Live at Roha
Renowned saxophonist and Ethio-jazz maestro Solomon Sisay brings his hypnotic, high-energy sounds to Footscray’s Roha Bar & Restaurant on Sunday, 8 November at 4 PM.
First shooting to fame as the lead saxophonist for Ethiopia’s legendary Axumite Band, Solomon has performed alongside iconic figures such as Mahmoud Ahmed, Aleymehu Eshete, and Ali Bira. Since relocating to Australia, he has mesmerised audiences at major festivals including WOMADelaide, MONA FOMA, Port Fairy Folk Festival, and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
Backed by Roha Sound, Solomon will showcase the rich, pentatonic Ethio-jazz modes featured on his critically acclaimed debut album Sitota—all set within an immersive cultural atmosphere featuring authentic Ethiopian cuisine, traditional coffee ceremonies, and craft drinks.
