Hannah Gadsby is moving into Comedy Republic until December

Words by staff writer

Hannah Gadsby Being Hannah Gadsby runs six dates on Bourke Street, and nobody’s saying what any of them will be.

Hannah Gadsby has a new residency at Comedy Republic, and the title, Hannah Gadsby Being Hannah Gadsby, is the brief.

Comedy Republic has locked in six dates of Hannah Gadsby Being Hannah Gadsby, kicking off 25 October and running weekly through to 15 November. After a short break, two more shows land on 6 and 13 December. Every show starts at 7:30pm and runs for roughly 70 minutes. Tickets are $30, and it’s for ages 16 and up.

What happens on any given night is up to Gadsby. Some weeks they’ll run a work-in-progress version of their next full show. Other nights might go to a format getting its first outing, or to a couple of friends invited up to share the stage. The venue’s announcement doesn’t narrow it down any further, so you’ll find out when you sit down.

This is a room Gadsby knows well. In July they ran Hannah Gadsby Is Getting Ready on the same stage, a two-date work-in-progress season built around testing ideas for a new show, with the set shifting from one week to the next. Before that, they spent Malthouse Comedy 2026 hosting The Evening Muse, a live talk show that was different every night and leaned on guests and whatever happened in the room.

The Gadsby news led edition 39 of Comedy Republic’s newsletter, The Gazette, where it shared space with A Mish Paradise, a Christmas show pairing Mish Wittrup with Michelle Brasier.

Most people met Gadsby through Nanette, their 2018 Netflix special. Douglas and Something Special followed it onto the platform, along with Gender Agenda, and Woof!, their most recent touring show, is out now as an audio album. The Comedy Republic run is the opposite of a finished special: six nights, $30 a seat, and material that’s still being worked out in front of whoever turns up.
