Suryakant Sawhney started the band in New Delhi back in 2010. The concept was a radio station transmitting from some long-gone decade, and the five-piece still treat every song as its own separate world. On record that can mean bossa nova one minute and space disco the next, with two trumpets turning up wherever they’re needed. Their first two albums, Portrait of a Time and Bismillah, built them a following that stretches well beyond India.
That 2024 trip, built around a one-off show at The Night Cat on 16 January, also took in two Sydney Festival appearances. BETA, the band’s third album, landed the same year, and they hauled it across 77 cities on the Good Luck Beta ‘24 tour. Next came North America, Mexico and Brazil in 2025, plus a string of European festival slots. This year they opened San Francisco’s Stern Grove Festival, playing to more than 11,300 people in an open-air amphitheatre lined with eucalyptus trees.
Sawhney handles vocals and guitar alongside Karan Singh on drums, Dhruv Bhola on bass and samples, Rohit Gupta on keys and trumpet and Kartik Sundareshan on guitar and trumpet. Live Nation’s presale runs from 9am on 21 October to 9am on 22 October. General tickets for Melbourne and Sydney go on sale an hour after it closes, at 10am on 22 October.
Perth tickets aren’t part of this on-sale. The festival hasn’t released details for the two Embassy nights yet, so Perth fans are waiting on its program.
