Earplugs optional, good deeds mandatory: The Maggie Pills are turning the Bergy Bandroom into a fundraiser this Friday.

The Maggie Pills – Venezuelan Earthquake Relief at the Bergy Bandroom is a benefit night for people affected by the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June.

The disaster claimed more than 5,300 lives, and tens of thousands of people are still missing. Many buildings were flattened or badly damaged, leaving thousands of people without a home.

Donations and volunteers flooded in from around the world in the early days, but attention has slowly drifted as the weeks have passed.

Rebuilding and recovery will take a long time, and plenty of people still need support in the meantime.

This gig is a way for locals to chip in, with The Maggie Pills joined on the bill by Fire Roots, Kristol Pisstol, Wavedrive and The Stripp.

Meet the bands

The Maggie Pills are a six-piece punk and alternative rock band from Naarm/Melbourne. They’ve built a reputation on a rough-around-the-edges, ’90s-inspired punk sound, full-throttle live shows and lyrics with a political bite.

The Stripp are a rock and roll outfit with plenty of energy to burn, carving out their own spot in Australia’s long history of loud music.

Wavedrive are an alt-metal act who blend the grit of hard rock, the rawness of grunge and the intensity of metalcore into one big wall of sound.

Kristol Pisstol dish up hardcore power violence noise, and they’re the act to see if you like your gigs chaotic and abrasive.

Fire Roots formed when a group of South American immigrants went looking for community, and they mix alt rock, punk, metal and Latin rhythms.

Every cent raised on the night will go to the earthquake victims and their families through Mates Without Borders.
