Soundcheck Runway lands at Revolver Upstairs on 21 October, with garments built around the guts of a live stage and worn by Melbourne creatives.
Pitched as an independent runway, Soundcheck Runway pulls Melbourne’s emerging fashion, music and creative communities into the same room for a single evening on 21 October.
The idea is to let scenes that usually run in parallel collide on the one floor. The designer lineup spans Feebee Coronel, Jelly Originals, Val Barrios, Devorah Studio, Kylah Owo, Milo by Michelle and Oletta, with jewellery from Scorched Valley.

Getting in on the night starts with a phone call. The 90s rave hotline is back, with a Melbourne twist.
Call 03 4050 7792 and a recorded message tells you where to go, just as party lines did when raves were kept quiet until the last minute.
It’s an homage to an era when the effort it took to find a party was part of what made it special, and the hotline is the first act of participation: you have to make the call to be let in on it.
Here’s the twist: every model on the catwalk is a working creative, from dancers to filmmakers, and each wears a garment built around a single element of a concert stage.
As they move, that component is meant to switch on. Every piece is shaped around its own sonic identity, translating frequency, texture and rhythm into fabric and form. They’re described as components rather than collections, each one tied to a moment of sound instead of a season.
Those components are incomplete on their own, complete together, and the models themselves are drawn from inside the culture: a dancer, an artist, a filmmaker or a musician.
Here’s how the night unfolds, with a track built live, one walk at a time:
- The runway opens in silence.
- Each model walks out carrying one layer of the song, like a drum, the bassline or the singing of a vocal. As they step out, their layer drops into the soundscape and is activated in the venue.
- Walk by walk, the track builds.
- The final layer belongs to the audience. When the crowd starts dancing, the song is complete and the runway becomes a rave.
There’s gear on the line too. Thanks to Marshall, anyone who nabs a ticket goes into the draw for a Marshall speaker and two sets of headphones, so showing up early has its perks.
The soundtrack is handled by Tilt Shift, while the runway itself comes from producers Ilan Janet and Lucia Fisher. Doors open at 8:30pm, the walk kicks off at 9pm and the whole thing runs through to 2am. Keen on dinner before the lights go down? Revolver takes bookings through its website.
None of these creations stick around once the night wraps. They’re made for the walk and nothing beyond it, which is reason enough to be in the room on 21 October.
