Cult record and book store Happy Valley has settled into a fresh Fitzroy space, and it's every bit as good as before.
The independent vinyl, book and gift shop has relocated to 347 Smith Street, Fitzroy, a short stroll from its long-time home at 294. Happy Valley traded for the final time at the old address on 19 July before reopening at the new one, bringing along the same carefully curated shelves that earned it a devoted following.
For the uninitiated, this is one of Melbourne’s most loved indie stores – a treasure trove of new and pre-order vinyl, hard-to-find books, cassette tapes and a rotating selection of gifts and ephemera. It’s the kind of place you wander into for one thing and lose an hour to.
Happy Valley

The new digs keep everything that built the store’s reputation. Crates of records line the room, a books corner rewards a slow browse, and the gift shelves are stocked with the sort of pieces you won’t spot anywhere else. Exclusive coloured pressings and a rolling pre-order list keep regulars coming back.
Can’t make it in person? There’s click and collect on anything in stock, free national postage on orders over $160, and Afterpay if you’d rather spread the cost across a few pays. New arrivals land often, so the racks are always worth a fresh dig.
More than 2,000 reviews and a swag of loyal locals tell the story – Happy Valley has simply picked up and moved a few doors along, doors wide open and shelves fully stocked.
