Dizzee Rascal brings We Want Bass to the Royal Botanic Gardens

Words by staff writer

Dizzee Rascal is turning Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens into a bass-heavy playground with his We Want Bass tour in December.

The British rapper and producer headlines Live at the Gardens on 4 December, joined by dance crossover figure Example, UK rapper Arrdee and Australian-Indonesian DJ Swaglord Savannah. It is the sole Melbourne stop on Dizzee Rascal’s We Want Bass run through Australia and New Zealand.

Dizzee Rascal helped carry grime from London pirate radio into the charts, and has since worked across rap, dance and pop. The We Want Bass billing puts the focus firmly on the heavier end of that catalogue.

General tickets for the Royal Botanic Gardens show go on sale 9 July at 1pm AEST through Ticketmaster. Presales land a day earlier, opening 8 July at 12pm AEST and running for 24 hours or until the allocation is gone, with access through Live at the Gardens, MG Live and Live Nation.

The wider tour opens in Perth on 26 November, then moves through Brisbane and Adelaide before the Melbourne date. From there it reaches the Sydney Opera House forecourt on 5 December, the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on 6 December, and closes across the Tasman at Auckland’s Shed 10 on 8 December.

Live at the Gardens is presented by MG Live and Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, and has built a name for big outdoor sets across summer. Dizzee Rascal’s booking adds one of grime’s founding voices to the series.
