Silversun Pickups have announced their return to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 14 years.

The Los Angeles alt-rock four-piece will bring their seventh studio album Tenterhooks — released in February through their own New Machine Recordings imprint — across the country in July, with Auckland indie-rock outfit Coast Arcade joining as support. The 10-track record features singles The Wreckage, New Wave and Long Gone, and was produced alongside Butch Vig, the legendary producer behind records from Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage.

The national run kicks off at Perth’s Astor Theatre on 21 July before winding through Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney, with the tour wrapping up across the ditch at Auckland’s Powerstation on 31 July. Melbourne’s stop lands at the Forum on 28 July.

Silversun Pickups have been one of alt-rock’s most enduring acts since breaking through with their 2006 debut Carnavas, which went Gold and spawned platinum single Lazy Eye. Their 2009 follow-up Swoon landed in the Billboard 200’s top 10, earned a Grammy nomination for best new artist and delivered the Gold-certified Panic Switch — a track that climbed all the way to number one on the Billboard charts. Their catalogue stretches across seven albums, with Neck of the Woods (2012), Better Nature (2015), Widow’s Weeds (2019) and Physical Thrills (2022) keeping the momentum rolling across two decades of output.

The band — Brian Aubert on vocals and guitar, Nikki Monninger on bass, Christopher Guanlao on drums and Joe Lester on keys — have graced some of the world’s biggest festival stages including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Osheaga, and shared bills with Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails and Wolfmother over the years.

Presale tickets open at 9am local time on 30 March, with general tickets available from 9am local on 31 March via Destroy All Lines.
