There’s a free three-day festival taking over Melbourne during race week

Words by staff writer

Three days of free racing content at the heart of the city? Strap in.

The Victorian government has announced that the F1 Melbourne Fan Festival will return in 2026 with a brand new home at Fed Square.

The free, three-day event runs from 6 to 8 March, open 10am to 10pm daily, and is designed to bring the atmosphere of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix beyond the Albert Park circuit gates.

The F1 Melbourne Fan Festival will feature live crosses direct from the track alongside exclusive content that won’t be available through regular broadcast coverage. That includes the Melbourne Walk and driver interviews featuring locals like Oscar Piastri and his McLaren teammate Lando Norris. Fans can also catch all the on-track action from Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Supercars on big screens with provided seating.

Away from the screens, the festival is packing in plenty of hands-on stuff. Racing simulators will be set up across the site, and for the first time fans will be able to get up close to the next generation F1 show car. There’s also a virtual F1 Driver Selfie activation where you can snap a photo alongside your favourite driver, plus a podium experience for anyone who’s ever wanted to stand on the top step.

The full range of official F1 team merchandise will be available on site, along with food and drink options across the three days.

The move to Fed Square is a notable shift, planting the festival right in the middle of the city and making it significantly more accessible for anyone without a ticket to the Grand Prix itself. With race week already one of Melbourne’s biggest annual drawcards, the fan festival effectively extends the event’s footprint into the CBD at no cost to attendees.
