“I can’t believe this is actually happening,” says Dave Faulkner, the Gurus’ lead singer and songwriter. “I have been a lifelong fan of classical music and a regular opera goer, so this is the fulfilment of a dream for me.”

Faulkner will be joined by bassist Rick Grossman, drummer Nik Reith and guitarist Brad Shepherd, with the MSO conducted by Nicholas Buc.

Whether you’re an 80s tragic or a Gurus superfan who’s been following the band since their Sydney pub rock days, this is shaping up as one of those rare crossover moments where rock heritage meets orchestral ambition. It’s also a one-night-only event, which means there’s no second chance if you miss it.

Given the Sidney Myer Music Bowl’s capacity and the novelty of this particular collaboration, it’s worth getting in early.
