Marsh Long returns to Melbourne for a rare hometown techno throwdown at The Toff

Words by staff writer

Safari Zone is handing the reins to Marsh Long for a hometown techno takeover at The Toff.

The Louder Than Words imprint boss has spent the better part of the past year tearing up dancefloors across Europe and beyond, building a reputation for her distinctive, high-octane approach to techno.

Marsh Long’s return to Melbourne marks one of her first local appearances in over 12 months, making this January date at The Toff a pretty significant occasion for those who’ve been tracking her international ascent.

The night promises a stacked lineup of support acts designed to work the room into a proper frenzy before Marsh Long takes the decks. Berlin-based selector Chris Vav brings his credentials as Oracle Records founder to the booth, while Safari Zone resident Tranq rounds out the bill with the kind of unpredictable, floor-moving sets the collective has become known for.

The Toff’s intimate upstairs setting should provide the perfect pressure cooker environment for the kind of relentless techno these three artists specialise in. Curtin House’s second-floor venue has long been a favourite for club nights that benefit from close quarters and low ceilings, and Safari Zone’s takeover looks set to capitalise on that atmosphere.

For those unfamiliar with Safari Zone, the Melbourne-based collective has been quietly building a reputation for putting together nights that prioritise dancefloor energy over hype.
