Tom John brings his indie rock project Mayhemtom to The Evelyn for an Atheistic album launch.
The doctor’s second album under the Mayhemtom moniker explores existential themes, religion, race, love and loneliness through dark indie rock sounds. Atheistic follows 2022’s The Art of Flying While Falling, with John describing the creation process as entirely accidental – songs simply flowing one after another without deliberate planning.
The album was written in 2023 and recorded at Rollingstock Studios in 2024, produced by Myles Mumford. John channels influences from Pink Floyd, The National and Paul Kelly while tackling weighty subject matter including the ongoing conflict in Gaza through tracks like Warmongering (Palestine) and personal struggles on songs like Memories.

The Evelyn show represents a celebration of creativity for the full-time oncologist who finds music serves as both outlet and therapy. John’s approach to songwriting involves extensive rewriting and refinement, ensuring each track carries meaningful substance rather than empty entertainment.
