Hey Lily, you’ll be inviting us to celebrate the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. How did this holiday originate, and what’s the ethos behind it?
Dia de Muertos or the Day of the Dead’s origins lie in central and southern Mexico, but is now celebrated on a global scale. It has roots in both Catholicism and the spiritual beliefs of the indigenous. At midnight on October 31 it is believed that the gates that separate the living and the dead are opened. On November 1 the spirits of the children visit their families in the land of the living and then on November 2 the adults come and join the party. In short, it’s the time of year when the land of the living pays their respect to and celebrates with their deceased loved ones.
You’ve sourced a huge lineup of DJs who are ready to party. What sort of atmosphere can we expect?
These are Melbourne’s most renowned party DJs. The dance floor is going to be the place to be. Wild vibes.
You’ll be offering a massive range of activities, including face-painting and an amazing drinks menu. What else is in-store?
There is a live art installation from the guys at Blender Creative and of course delicious offerings from the Touché Hombre menu. We want to get everyone in the spirit nice and early – the event is more of a day rave/pop up – so that our guests can still terrorise the town after the event and to stick around to see what’s in store for the future of our spaces.
How are you going to go about transforming your warehouse into, as you guys have put it, ‘one hell of a party space’?
Well that is going to be a bit of a surprise. All I can say is if you’re wearing white you’ll be in for a treat.
Touché Hombre’s Day of the Dead goes down on Sunday November 1 from 12pm to 10pm in Tattersall lane. Tickets from $15 at eventbrite.com.au. Head to Free Shit for the chance to win a double VIP pass.
