Melbourne's indie-rock maestro Tim Allan has announced the release of his latest single, Stargazing on a Cloudy Night, along with a high-production music video.
The new single will be available on all major streaming platforms from 18 October and marks the first release from his upcoming EP, A Half of Mine, due in early 2025.
To celebrate the release, Allan will perform his debut headline show at The Bergy Bandroom in Melbourne on 26 October 2024. Joined by his band, the show promises a high-energy mix of pop-rock and acoustic storytelling. Fellow Melbourne songwriter Isabelle Davis will open the event.

Stargazing on a Cloudy Night
We’re big fans of Allan and have been covering his beautiful lyricism and canny songwriting nous since 2020. He studied musical theatre at two of Melbourne’s most respected schools before jumping into a songwriting degree at the Australian College of the Arts.
His debut single Polka Dots turned heads within the Melbourne music community – a song of new friendships and relationships that still really highlights Allan’s lyrical knack – and he’ll be dropping a re-release of it in February 2025.
He also dropped the stunning By My Side back in 2023, showcasing his emotionally charged voice soaring through the choruses, while his impressive guitar work stands out as a highlight in By My Side. The track built beautifully to a powerful crescendo, with Allan’s vocals delivering a strong impact that leaves the listener wanting more.
His work is highly uplifting, but every song is layered with touching instrumental moments that give his catalogue real emotional depth.
Stargazing on a Cloudy Night was written and produced by Allan and mixed and mastered by Will Petts. Allan explains that the song’s metaphor came first, focusing on the uncertainty of spending a final day with someone you love without knowing what the future holds. Inspired by experimenting with tunings from John Mayer tracks, Allan discovered the riff that took the song on a guitar-driven journey.
Following this release, Allan plans an acoustic version of Stargazing on a Cloudy Night. The title track, A Half of Mine, will be released as the third single before the EP lands in March 2025.
With hundreds of songs written over the last decade, Allan is ready to share his music with the world, gearing up for a big year ahead.
