To call Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw and James Ford the puppet masters of modern dance is not an overstatement. Shaw and Ford through their ‘Mobile Disco’ were as defining in the rise of electro as Justice and similarly important on the crossing over of electro and rock as the Klaxons. For the last 12 months the pair have turned their hand to techno having released nine 12”s on their new imprint Delicacies.
Now to celebrate this successful venture SMD have released a double album featuring nine unmixed tracks and then a 51minute 51second mix of the tracks. Techy, tonal and compelling are three words that capture the essence of Delicacies – this is techno done respectfully but without alienating dance music fans who have grown up on the far more immediate attraction of mash-up and electro. Highlight tracks include Thousand Year Egg and Sweetbread.
