60 Seconds With… The Loveless

Define your genre in five words or less: Moody, erratic, noisy, grungey.

What do you love about making music? That it isn’t a dictatorship in this band. No one needs to be told much.

What do you hate about the music industry? Cool people.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why? I’m afraid of showing anybody I admire my stuff, but it would have to be Kurt Cobain and Rowland S Howard because they possessed the ragged emotional expression and guitar tone I would like to have.

How long have you been gigging and writing? The Loveless have been around in various forms for about seven years. At risk of betraying our age, everyone in the band has been around the traps for about seven years before that as well.

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed? You have to be your own writer, composer, marketing department, manager, graphic artist, makeup artist, stylist and work really, really hard. Sometimes I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What inspires or has influenced your music the most? Bonnie Mercer’s guitar tone.

What can a punter expect from your live show? Relatively organised chaos.

Do you have any record releases to date? What are they? Where can I get them? Our debut EP Room is available on Bandcamp, Polyester Records, Thornbury Records, through our Facebook page, and at the gigs.
