Well, the band name is my name: Roscoe James Irwin. I sing lead vocals, play keyboards and trumpet, and write the songs.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like ?
Like a Saturday afternoon 60s pop record, mixed with a melancholy 70s folk record.
What do you love about making music?
Travelling to amazing places, meeting bizarre people and sharing music with them, and the fact that I get to say so many things that I otherwise would never say in regular life and in regular words. It’s mostly a really beautiful community in the Australian music industry, and I’m really proud of being a part of it.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
Nick Drake. He understood the beauty of simplicity but blended it with glorious large-scale orchestration.
What can a punter expect from your live show?
A little bit of awkward laughter, maybe some genuine tears, some uncomfortable but endearing conversation, and a really happening band. They honestly are very good.
What ‘ve you got to sell CD-wise?
My debut album, ‘The Hunting Road’, produced by John Castle [Washington, The Bamboos] is available at shows, and on iTunes.
