60 Seconds With… Paul Reid

Define your genre in five words or less: Folk, pop, alternative country.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like? If people are going to comment on who I sound like, I guess they would say its sounds like a mash up of Josh Pyke, John Mayer and Ben Howard.

What do you love about making music? I love the challenge to keep on writing creatively and make every new song better than your last.

What do you hate about the music industry? I don’t ever hate it. But it will test you, a lot, and it’s how you react to it that will determine your longevity in it.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why? Jeff Buckley, even to have seen him play would have been enough. He was a great songwriter. And that voice!

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why? I’m not one for violence, let alone assassinations, but sure, I’ll play along… beat it Bieber.

What can a punter expect from your live show? A diverse show that can go from just a solo troubadour to a full band with lots of melody and enough rhythm to make you tap your feet.

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever played a gig, or made a recording? I played at a venue once where my drummer ordered a pizza and it was delivered to him on stage during a song. Best gig ever if you had asked him.

When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc.? My new single High Tide was released in January, which I am currently on tour with at the moment, playing the Cornish Arms on Saturday February 22. My new EP Vines is out now and will be toured along the east coast in May, stopping over in major cities across the east coast. More details to come!
