60 Seconds With Loon Lake

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

We are called Loon Lake, my name is Sime and I play the guitar in the band.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

I’d think different people would say different things, some people might like us and some people might hate us. I’ve heard a few people describe us as ‘garage pop’. I guess with three guitars that are a bit raw it might be the case.

What do you love about making music?

My favourite thing about making music is that you never know where and when a song is going to spring up. Then when it is taken to the band it can go somewhere completely different. The spontaneitt of making music is fantastic.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Don’t necessarily hate anything about it yet, it’s been pretty kind to our band so far.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

I really appreciate the music of Sam Cooke. I don’t think he would really be that impressed with ours though. At least I would get to meet him.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

I can’t stand that LMFAO shit. I’m a primary music teacher, and all the kids love that crap, it baffles me how that has become popular. To my ear I thought it was a gimmick song, then I read it was number one all over the world. I love good chart pop, but in my opinion it is really bad music.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Hopefully they can expect a fun show that will make them smile and move. Then they can go home and tell all their friends about us and they will all be at our next show.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

We released our debut EP called Not Just Friends in June this year, people can search thatone out if they like. We are hoping to release our second EP sometime in the early stages of 2012.

When’s the gig and with who?

Club. It is a single launch for our song Bad To Me. We have a Melbourne band called RedBerryPlum supporting us, they sound great. There will also be an opener that I don’t think has quite been locked down at the time of writing this.

Anything else to add?

Hopefully if you are reading this you can come to our gig because the music sounds better with you.
