So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

I play under my own name, roping in a bunch of different musicians depending on the show – sometimes drums, bass and guitar – sometimes a string section. I write songs, sing them, and deliver the world’s second most awkward inter-song onstage banter.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

I’ve recently started collaborating with electronic producer Tim Shiel (Faux Pas, Bertie Blackman, Double J), and we’re about to release the new album’s first single, Hood and the Hunter. Tim has such an imaginative approach to creating layered, almost psychedelic electronica, and it’s been really exciting to blend his influence with the more acoustic elements of my songs.  You can hear a teaser of the new track at pozible.com/georgiafieldsalbum!

What do you love about making music?

It probably sounds trite, but singing. I am most happy when I’m singing! When I was a teenager, we had an overseas student boarding with us, and I remember one day she asked me out of the blue why I was depressed. I was surprised that she had noticed. She said that I had stopped singing.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Economic rationalism.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

If I could travel back in time, I would be going straight back to see the dinosaurs.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

Crazy Frog. I think we all know why.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

It varies a lot depending on the show. My last headline show at The Toff In Town was with my nine-piece band, and prior to that I collaborated with a string quintet from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. I’m yet to workshop how the electronic elements of my forthcoming album will be recreated in a live show, but for now punters can expect me and my songs!

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

I’ve got a new single coming out on Friday June 27 (with a music video now online!), which will be my first single from sophomore album Astral Debris due out later this year.

When’s the gig and with who?

Gigs and general news about upcoming escapades can be found on Facebook.

Anything else to add?

I was cutting up a pomegranate the other day, and was thinking how much they remind me of corn. Does anyone else see that? Obviously the pomegranate is spherical, but they both have the edible kernels that are very similar. Okay, you have to cook corn, but the kernels still very similar in shape and size. Someone back me up on this.
